Meen Peera (Kerala style fish with shredded coconut)

Meen Peera is a traditional  and popular homemade dish in Kerala . Its prepared small pieces of sardines with shredded coconut.

INGREDENTS

Sardine fish 500gm
Shallots(small onion) 8no
Grated coconut 1 cup
Birdeye chilli (കന്താരി) 8no
Garlic 2 cloves
Ginger a small piece
Kokkam 2 pieces
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves
Salt
Water

PREPARATION

  • Wash and clean sardine fish and ensure that all scales should removed . Better Wash the fish with vinegar to get rid of fishy odor

  • Cut the fish into small pieces

  • Crush and blend together grated coconut , shallots.birdeye chilli, ginger ,garlic , turmeric powder, curryleaves. No need to make paste just 2to 3 crush in mixer.

  • add cut fish into Mann chatti (earthenware), it help to improve the natural taste of dish.

  • Add coconut mixture ,kokkam, coconut oil, salt, and curryleaves and mix well.

  • Add little water for cooking the fish and earthenware covered with a lid.keep the temperature medium while cooking

  • After 10 mins sightly open and gently stir once with help of wooden laddle , cook till.water reduced. Be careful don’t get burn dish.

  • Once liquid has dried up,remove from heat.

  • Serve with boiled matta rice.
